Now in its third year, the day of action is a national initiative, organised by Lambeth council.
This critical initiative aims to unite UK councils in rigorously enforcing the Blue Badge scheme, and as the National Agency for Blue Badge Fraud, BBFI whole heartedly endorse this. The day, and its wider repercussions, is instrumental in protecting accessibility and independence for disabled motorists.
This years day of action took place on 24 May, and saw participating councils intensify enforcement and educate communities on the correct usage of Blue Badges and the BBFI team were out in force, with 9 of our highly skilled investigators out covering 10 different local authorities, 9 in the London area and 1 in Dudley, West Midlands.
Across the day we checked a massive 449 badges, of which:
30 were seized.
26 were misused.
3 were expired badges.
1 was a deceased badge.
1 was stolen.
1 was fake.
We also towed away 2 vehicles in Hammersmith & Fulham and even returned a stolen badge to its rightful owner in Westminster, less than an hour after it was taken.
We’re thrilled to support this brilliant initiative each year – but our work doesn’t stop here, every day we continue the fight against blue badge crime.
