[DATE]

Dear [first name of MP]

Re: Disabled parking access and blue badge crime in [location]

I hope this letter finds you well, I am writing to you as a member of your constituency in [specify your local area and postcode]

As my [MSP/MP], I hope you are committed to ensuring that disabled people in the UK can live with the same opportunities as everyone else, which includes freedom of travel, movement and access, which is why IU am writing to you today.

Recently, following a number of headlines. I have become aware of the shocking impact of blue badge fraud and crime on the disabled community.  The blue badge scheme exists to ensure ease and equality of access to essential services and social environments for those with disabilities – all of which is threatened when blue badge crime and fraud goes unchecked.  As an example, 18 disabled people a day are having their badges stolen or reproduced in London, but it is not a problem that is exclusive to the capital city.

[You can also insert a brief explanation of the impact of this problem on you, your family or other constituents if you are comfortable doing so]

Every stolen badge directly impacts the life of someone with a disability who – as well as dealing with the trauma of a theft – will now be unable to travel. Every badge misused, or borrowed, affects legitimate blue badge users who are no longer able to park in areas they need to, affecting their quality-of-life day to day. This is a country-wide epidemic and I am keen to know how our locale is tackling it.

I would like to ask what discussions you are having the local authorities about this issue, and find out more about our plans, as a community, to tackle this.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours sincerely
